Awardees will be notified on or before February 17
Bowling Green, Ky. (January 15, 2020) – Awardees for the AT&T K-12 homework gap program will be selected by Monday, February 15 and notified by Wednesday, February 17. The application window for schools and nonprofits closed January 11.
The AT&T K-12 homework gap program is focused on helping school districts, charter schools, and community-based nonprofits that serve at-risk K-12 students. Connected Nation (CN), a national nonprofit working to expand access, adoption, and use of high-speed internet and its related technologies, is administering the program which was made possible through a $10 million commitment from AT&T.
As part of that commitment, AT&T will provide free wireless internet service and mobile Wi-Fi hotspots. In addition, some awardees may also receive a new or refurbished laptop, Chromebook, or tablet learning device (based on need and subject to availability).
“Connected Nation’s education and digital inclusion group will now review all submitted applications, assessing them for completeness, alignment with program goals, and level of potential impact,” said Brent Legg, Executive Vice President of Government Affairs, CN. “We’re very excited about the positive impact that is program will have on some of our country’s most vulnerable youth by ensuring that they have the internet access they need to engage, learn, and thrive. We believe internet access should never be a barrier to learning.”
The program is primarily focused on impacting students in the following groups:
- Students in foster care
- Students experiencing homelessness
- English language learners
- Students with disabilities
- Students eligible for the Migrant Education Program
- Other at-risk students who may be disconnected from formal education opportunities
